Be Blessed Verse

Our verse for the week is Colossians 2:2-3 (The Passion Translation)

I am contending for you that your hearts will be wrapped in the comfort of heaven and woven together into love’s fabric. This will give you access to all the riches of God as you experience the revelation of God’s great mystery—Christ. For our spiritual wealth is in Him, like hidden treasure waiting to be discovered—heaven’s wisdom and endless riches of revelation knowledge.

Oh my goodness…I will never forget the day one of my clients had her beautiful new custom draperies installed. She called me, frantic that the cat had immediately peed on one of the panels. They were very expensive and she was distraught, to say the least. She was extremely frustrated and really sad. She loved the look and now, the dilemma was how to make them look and smell like new again. I believe she had the panel professionally cleaned, but ohhh my, what a shame that happened.

Fast forward to 2022.

Performance fabrics have come on the scene in the last few years.  They are not only beautiful but also very practical. Today, if a cat peed on these performance fabric panels, just take it down, throw it in the washing machine and they come out like new. If they are custom-made, you still may want to dry clean them so that they are treated more gently.  Many times, even just blotting the spot with a damp cloth is enough. Again, these fabrics can be dry cleaned if you prefer, but that is usually not needed. Stain, fade & mildew-resistant high-performance fabrics are perfect for indoors or out.

I have had clients order light-colored sectionals with babies who spit, wet, and smear stuff on them. The cushions are thrown into the washer and put on the pillow foam while wet and dry overnight. I saw one of my clients the other day. They bought their light grey sectional when their daughter was born and she is almost 3 now. The sectional still looks new. It is amazing! So, those of you with kids should consider performance fabrics…don't worry, be happy, literally!!!

So what is the best application of performance fabrics?

Why Beautiful Performance Fabrics Are A Must-Have In Your Home

Here are five of the best places to use performance fabrics in your own home.

1. Stunning Sofas, Comfy Chairs & Oversized Ottomans

Performance fabric is a term used in the furniture industry to describe fabrics that are easy to clean and withstand the wear and tear of everyday life. Performance fabric is the best choice for high-traffic areas and living spaces needing to stand the test of time. If you are reupholstering or custom-ordering a nice piece of furniture, you know what I am recommending. Performance fabrics enhance a piece's durability and extend its life. It will also bring beauty into any room of the home.

2. Lovely Living Room Curtains & Drapes

There are many benefits of using performance fabrics for window treatments in all the common areas of the home. They are beautiful and extremely visually appealing. They are a great investment for a very long time.

3. Ideal Indoor Area Rugs

An area rug is basically a piece of art on the floor. Most materials used on area rugs, such as wool, silk, and jute, can stain, wear, and fade. Performance area rugs are great for high-traffic, high-use, spill-prone areas. Not only are they easy to clean and maintain, but they also hide dirt well, keeping the room looking fresh, even when it is well-used by family members and pets. Spills can be easily blotted out, and dirt can be brushed or vacuumed off. While deep stains may require professional help, performance rugs are easy to maintain through regular vacuuming.

4. Beautiful Custom Bedding

Performance bedding is a bedding product not made from traditional materials such as cotton. You can create a beautiful bedroom with custom duvet covers, pillows, and bed skirts. Bedding products include sheets, pillows, and mattress protectors. Because these fabrics have low absorbency qualities, they do not absorb moisture, so dampness will be wicked away from the body during sleep. This also means it is more resistant to stains than cotton. Relax and have breakfast in bed!

5. Fine Furnishings for the Outdoors

Why use performance fabrics on outdoor furnishings? I am a California girl and we have sun most of the year. Outdoor fabrics can break down, fade, rot, and not last.

These amazing fabrics truly can have a beautiful luxury look. Whether they are used on furniture, draperies, the floor, or bedding, they can be exquisite. Amazingly, most spills can easily be cleaned up using mild cleaner and water. Performance fabrics have no PFC chemical, which means they will never have to be re-treated and are inherently stain-resistant for life.

Best of all, they are kid-proof, pet-proof, weatherproof, life-proof…just about everything proof. Woot Woot! I know, sounds too good to be true, but I personally love these beautiful fabrics. They have absolutely become a staple in my design specifications!
